Privacy Policy
Effective October 9, 2026
Human Quest LLC (“Human Quest”, “we”, “us”) makes Inversion Quest, a handstand and inversion training app for iPhone and Android, and runs this website, inversion.quest. This policy explains what information the app and the website handle, where it goes, why, how long it is kept, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your practice is saved on your phone first. If you never sign in, it stays there. The app still sends crash reports and diagnostics to Google Firebase, fetches feature settings, and loads exercise videos and images (section 2).
- Pose detection runs on your phone: the frames it checks are analyzed in memory and discarded. Your video clips are saved on your phone, and we never upload them.
- Voice commands are recognized on your phone when it supports that. Otherwise Apple’s or Google’s speech service processes the audio. We never receive your audio.
- If you sign in, your practice is backed up to our database on Google Firebase so it can sync.
- When you create an account, your email address is added to our mailing list at Mailchimp. You can unsubscribe from any email (section 3.15).
- The AI coach features, for signed-in users, send text and, for a form review you ask for, up to four still images from one clip, through our server to OpenAI. They never send audio or video. After you explicitly enable AI coaching, the Coach’s take after a new personal best can run without a tap (section 4).
- We don’t sell your information, show ads, or share your information for advertising.
- You can export your data, and delete it or your whole account, from inside the app.
1. Who we are and what this covers
Human Quest LLC is the company responsible for your information (the “controller”, in European terms). You can reach us at info@humanquest.net.
This policy covers the Inversion Quest apps and inversion.quest. Inversion Quest shares its sign-in, and the Google Firebase project behind it, with Handstand Quest, our earlier handstand app, which Human Quest also runs. Handstand Quest has its own privacy policy. This policy covers Handstand Quest data only where Inversion Quest reads it, at your request, to bring your history over (section 6).
2. How the app handles data
Inversion Quest is built to work on your phone first. There are three situations:
- Without an account. Everything you record is kept in the app’s storage on your phone. Your practice doesn’t leave the phone unless you share or export it yourself. The app still connects to Google Firebase for crash reports, diagnostics and feature settings (sections 3.9 and 3.10), loads exercise videos and images (section 3.11), and, when your phone can’t recognize speech on the device, uses Apple’s or Google’s speech service for voice commands (section 5).
- With an account. Everything is still saved on your phone first, then copied to our cloud database so you can restore it and use it on more than one device. When you first sign in, what you recorded before signing in is uploaded to that account. If the phone holds another account’s data, the app clears it instead of uploading it.
- AI coach features. These work only when you are signed in and explicitly enable AI coaching. Before sharing with OpenAI, the app explains what is sent (section 4). You can turn AI coaching off in You while keeping cloud backup and sync.
3. What we collect and why
Each card below lists one kind of information. “Our database” means Cloud Firestore, run for us by Google Firebase in the United States.
3.1 Your account (only if you sign in)
- What
Your email address, name, a link to your profile photo, a user ID, and how you signed in: Sign in with Apple (on iPhone), Google, or email and password.
With Sign in with Apple, Apple lets you share or hide your email address; the name Apple shares the first time becomes your display name. With email sign-in you can add a name. Your password goes to Firebase Authentication, which stores it in a hashed form; we can’t read it.
- Where it’s kept
- Firebase Authentication, with a copy of your name, email and photo link in your profile in our database. Your email address is also added to our mailing list (3.15).
- Who receives it
- Google (Firebase). Apple or Google when you sign in with them. Mailchimp (your email address only).
- Why
- To back up and sync your practice, to use the AI coach, to bring over Handstand Quest history, and to send you news about our apps by email (3.15).
- Kept until
- You delete your account.
3.2 Training profile
- What
Your answers to the welcome questions (level, longest hold, hold goal, days a week), daily practice minutes, focus skills, favorites and daily goal.
If you bring over your Handstand Quest history, also any physical limitations you recorded there and your Handstand Quest coach profile (longest hold, whether you can hold a freestanding handstand, goals, skills, biggest challenge, plank hold, minutes a week). Limitations can describe injuries, which some laws treat as health information. Inversion Quest has no field to type them in; they only arrive through that import.
- Where it’s kept
- On your phone. If you sign in, also in our database.
- Who receives it
- Google (Firebase), as our host. Parts of it go with AI coach requests (section 4).
- Why
- To set your targets and tailor coaching to you.
- Kept until
- You delete your data or your account.
3.3 Practice history
- What
- Each session and attempt: the skill, start and end times, hold times, reps, targets and records; how each attempt was started and stopped (voice, camera, touch or remote); wall touches; form measurements from the camera (joint angles, how straight your line was, wobble); how the session felt and your effort rating; completed workouts; the summary of any AI form review you asked for; and the on-device file paths of your clips and thumbnails. The videos themselves are not part of it.
- Where it’s kept
- On your phone. If you sign in, also in our database.
- Who receives it
- Google (Firebase). Summaries go with AI coach requests when you use them.
- Why
- Your timer history, records, streaks, next targets and sync.
- Kept until
- You delete the session, your data or your account.
3.4 Practice plan, reminders, goals and saved coaching
- What
- Your practice times and weekdays, the reminder text you write, goals, when you last completed a practice, workouts and plans you save from the AI coach, and the full result of every AI form review you ask for.
- Where it’s kept
- On your phone. If you sign in, also in our database. Reminders are scheduled by your phone.
- Who receives it
- Google (Firebase).
- Why
- Reminders, long-term goals, and keeping coaching you asked for. Form reviews are saved automatically when they arrive.
- Kept until
- You delete the item, your data or your account.
3.5 Camera, in Floor Mode
- What
Live camera frames, about eight a second, while Floor Mode is open with auto-detect or clips turned on. When clips are on, the same camera also records the video described in 3.6.
Pose detection runs on your phone (Apple Vision on iPhone, Google ML Kit built into the app on Android) and turns each frame into the positions of 13 body joints. Only the measurements for each attempt are kept (3.3).
- Where it’s kept
- The frames pose detection checks are held briefly in the phone’s memory and then discarded.
- Who receives it
- No one. Pose detection sends nothing anywhere.
- Why
- To see when you go upside down, time holds on their own, and measure your line.
- Your choice
- Auto-detect is on by default. Turn it off in the practice setup, or don’t allow camera access; the timer still works with your voice or a tap.
3.6 Video clips
- What
- A recording of each Floor Mode session, made without sound, cut into one short clip per attempt with a thumbnail image. The full recording is deleted once the clips are cut. If a clip can’t be cut, the whole recording, rests included, is kept as that attempt’s clip; if saving the clips fails altogether, the recordings can stay in the app’s temporary storage.
- Where it’s kept
- On your phone, in the app’s storage, and in your phone’s own backups if they include the app. We never upload your clips.
- Who receives it
- No one, unless you share a clip yourself or ask for a form review, which sends up to four still images from that one clip (section 4).
- Why
- To replay attempts and look at your form.
- Kept until
- Deleting a session removes the clips of the attempts it still has. Everything else stays on this phone until you sign out, delete your data or uninstall the app: thumbnail images, the clip of an attempt you remove on its own (removing the last attempt deletes the session but not its clips), and the clips of a session deleted on another device.
- Your choice
- “Clip every attempt” is on by default. Turn it off in the practice setup.
3.7 Microphone and speech recognition
- What
- Microphone audio during a session, turned into text to recognize voice commands. On iPhone, listening can continue if you leave the app or lock the screen before the session ends. Details in section 5.
- Where it’s kept
- Nowhere. Audio and transcripts are held in memory only.
- Who receives it
- Nobody when your phone recognizes speech on the device. Otherwise Apple (iPhone) or your phone’s speech service, usually Google (Android). Never us.
- Why
- Hands-free control of the timer and workouts.
- Your choice
- Voice commands are on by default. Turn them off in the practice setup, or don’t allow microphone and speech access.
3.8 Your own voice words and settings
- What
- Start and stop words you add, and your settings: voice, coach talk level, countdown, rest, volume, camera, haptics and similar.
- Where it’s kept
- On your phone only.
- Who receives it
- Your words are given to the speech recognizer as hints (see 3.7), and up to ten of them go with personal coach-line and Ask Coach requests (section 4).
- Why
- Your own commands and preferences.
- Kept until
- You change them, sign out, delete your data or uninstall.
3.9 Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics)
- What
- Crash reports and reports of handled errors, with technical details such as the device model, OS version, app version and an installation ID, and short diagnostic notes about the voice engine (for example, whether a headphone microphone was in use). We don’t add your transcripts, anything you type, or your exercise names to them. Some error reports, such as one about a failed Handstand Quest import, can include your user ID.
- Where it’s kept
- Firebase Crashlytics.
- Who receives it
- Google.
- Why
- To find and fix crashes and errors.
- Kept for
- Up to 90 days, under Crashlytics’ retention.
3.10 Diagnostics and feature settings (Google Analytics for Firebase, Remote Config)
- What
The app includes Google Analytics for Firebase. When it is active, it records events about the coach voice’s reliability (how many lines were spoken, delays, restarts, errors, which kind of voice was used) and the events the SDK collects on its own, such as first open and session start, with an app instance ID, device model, OS version, app version and an approximate location derived from your IP address. We don’t attach your user ID or any profile details to these events.
Remote Config fetches our feature switches with a Firebase installation ID and basic device details such as the app version and language. The app adds nothing about you.
On Android, the Analytics library can read the device’s advertising ID if your settings allow it. We don’t use it for advertising. You can reset or delete it in Android settings.
- Who receives it
- Google.
- Why
- To keep the voice coach reliable and switch features on or off safely.
- Kept for
- Analytics events for the retention period set on our Google Analytics property; Remote Config data as a cache on your phone.
3.11 Content the app loads
- What
- Exercise demo videos from Firebase Storage, exercise thumbnails from YouTube, YouTube videos you choose to open, and your profile photo from wherever it is hosted.
- Who receives it
- Loading these reveals your IP address and basic device information to Google, YouTube or the photo host, as any web request does.
- Why
- To show exercise media and your photo.
3.12 Notifications
- What
- Local reminders only: your practice title and reminder text at the times you choose, and a streak nudge. The app reads your phone’s time zone to schedule them. There are no push notifications.
- Who receives it
- No one. Your phone schedules them.
- Your choice
- The app asks for permission when you turn a reminder on.
3.13 This website
- What
- Our host, Vercel, processes your IP address, browser details, the pages you request and the time, to deliver pages and keep them secure. The site sets no cookies and has no analytics, ads or trackers. Its fonts are served from our own site.
- Who receives it
- Vercel.
- Kept for
- Up to 30 days in Vercel’s request logs.
3.14 When you email us
- What
- Your email address, name and whatever you write to us, including feedback from the app’s Send feedback button, which uses the same address.
- Who receives it
- Our email provider.
- Why
- To answer you, to write back when the app launches if you asked us to, and to keep a record of privacy and deletion requests.
- Kept for
- Up to 2 years after our last exchange.
3.15 Our mailing list (Mailchimp)
- What
- Your email address. When a new account is created, our sign-in system adds its email address to our mailing list, marked as subscribed; the app does not ask first.
- Where it’s kept
- Mailchimp, run by Intuit, in the United States.
- Who receives it
- Mailchimp.
- Why
- To send news about Inversion Quest and Handstand Quest, if we send any.
- Your choice
- Every email from the list has an unsubscribe link, or email us. Delete account everywhere takes your address off the list; Delete Inversion Quest data does not.
- Kept until
- You delete your account everywhere. Unsubscribing stops the emails but keeps your address on the list, marked unsubscribed. Mailchimp may keep a record of a removed address; email us to have it erased.
4. AI coach features
Some Inversion Quest features use AI. They need you to be signed in, and some may not be available in your version of the app yet. This is how they work when they are.
| Feature | What it sends |
|---|---|
| Coach chat | Your message and up to 20 earlier messages in the conversation. |
| Coach’s take | A finished session: attempt times, best, target, form measurements, effort and feeling, and a summary of up to 30 earlier sessions. |
| Form review | Up to four still JPEG images taken from one attempt’s clip, the attempt’s measurements and hold time. Only when you tap Get form feedback. |
| Build a workout or plan | Your request (skill, minutes, wall or open floor, energy, weeks) and the list of exercises the app can run. |
| Ask Coach | A question you speak between efforts, after you say “coach”. Your phone turns it into text; only the text is sent. |
| Personal coach lines | Your session plan and recent results, so the coach can write lines for this session; they may come back as audio. |
Depending on the feature, a request can also carry context: your first name, your training profile (including any physical limitations), up to 30 recent sessions, your records, streak and current target, skill and exercise names (including exercises you created), and up to ten of your own voice words.
Where it goes
Requests go to our server functions on Google Cloud in the United States, with a sign-in token that proves they come from your account. The server checks the token, counts the request against your daily allowance, and sends what the feature needs to OpenAI to write the answer and, for spoken lines, the audio. The server does not pass your user ID or email address to OpenAI and does not store what you sent or what came back. It keeps only daily request counts under a pseudonymous key (a one-way hash of your user ID), and error logs that contain no content. Google Cloud may also keep standard request logs, such as the time, your IP address and the response status.
OpenAI processes this content to provide the feature. Under OpenAI’s API terms, content sent through its API is not used to train OpenAI’s models by default, and OpenAI may keep it for up to 30 days to detect abuse, unless the law requires it to keep it longer. Human Quest does not use your content to train AI models.
What is kept, and where
- Coach chat stays on your phone. You can clear the conversation at any time.
- The Coach’s take is saved on your phone with the session.
- Workouts and plans you save are kept in your account (3.4).
- Every form review you ask for is saved to your account when it arrives, and its summary is added to that attempt in your practice history (3.3 and 3.4).
- Spoken coach lines are cached on your phone, up to 50 MB.
When the app asks without a tap
Two features can send a request without you tapping anything, and only while you are signed in and have enabled AI coaching:
- when you set a new personal best, the app asks for a Coach’s take, at most once a day;
- once we switch personal coach lines on, the app prepares them a few seconds after you open a session setup or a workout.
Every other AI request starts only when you ask for it. AI coaching is off until you explicitly allow sharing with OpenAI. Turn it off in You to stop new AI requests, including automatic requests; a request already sent may finish. Signing out or deleting local data clears this permission on that device.
The studio coach voice
The studio coach voice is AI-generated. Its phrases were recorded in advance and ship inside the app, so playing them sends nothing anywhere. If you choose one of your phone’s voices instead, your phone’s own text-to-speech engine speaks the cues.
AI answers can be wrong. They are not medical or professional advice; see the health and safety section of our Terms.
5. Voice commands and speech
- During a session the app listens through the microphone for commands such as “go” and “stop”. It needs microphone access, and on iPhone speech recognition access.
- On iPhone, if you switch to another app or lock the screen before the session ends, the microphone can keep listening until you end the session or close it; iPhone shows its microphone indicator while it does. On Android, listening pauses while the app is in the background.
- iPhone: the app uses Apple’s speech recognition in US English and asks for on-device recognition. If your iPhone can’t recognize speech on the device, Apple’s servers process the audio, under Apple’s privacy policy.
- Android: the app uses your phone’s on-device recognizer when one is available. Otherwise, or if on-device recognition keeps failing, it uses your phone’s speech service, usually Google’s, which may process the audio on its servers.
- To hear commands reliably, the app gives the recognizer its list of command words, including your own start and stop words.
- The app never records, stores or sends your audio to us. Transcripts are used only to act on commands; for Ask Coach, the question text is sent as described in section 4. Clips are recorded without sound.
6. Bringing over your Handstand Quest history
- This happens only if you choose it: on the welcome screen (“I use Handstand Quest”) or under You, “Bring your Handstand Quest history”, signed in with the account you use for Handstand Quest.
- The app reads your Handstand Quest data from our database: your Handstand Quest profile and practice log, records, settings, habits, goals, custom exercises and workouts. It shows you a preview first and copies nothing until you tap “Bring it over”.
- Copied into Inversion Quest: practice days and sessions, records, habits (as practice times), goals, favorites, custom exercises, your training profile including any physical limitations, your Handstand Quest coach profile, daily goal, completed workouts, your voice words and countdown setting, your name and photo if Inversion Quest doesn’t have them yet, and whether your Handstand Quest account had a paid unlock (stored as a note only; it doesn’t unlock anything).
- Read but not copied: email address, phone number, location, Instagram handle, pronouns, bio, birth date, sex, height, weight, member-since and last-active dates, whether you were a coach, device and app diagnostics (device model, app version, speech-recognition support and notes), and the details of your purchases. The phone reads them during the import and discards them, though the database’s offline cache on your phone can keep a copy until you uninstall.
- Handstand Quest photos and videos are not copied. Your Handstand Quest data is not changed.
8. Purchases
Inversion Quest has no in-app purchases or subscriptions today. If we add them, Apple or Google will handle payment; we would receive the purchase status, not your card details, and we will update this policy first. Our database can hold a flag showing whether your account has paid features; only our servers can set it.
9. Legal bases (EEA, UK and Switzerland)
- Performing our contract with you: your account, backup and sync, the practice features, AI features you use, and the Handstand Quest import you ask for.
- Our legitimate interests in keeping the app working, reliable and secure (crash reports, voice diagnostics, feature switches, usage limits, and server and website logs) and in telling account holders about our apps by email (3.15). You can object to these, and unsubscribe from our emails at any time.
- Your consent: AI sharing with OpenAI, camera, microphone, speech recognition and notification access, which your phone asks for and you can withdraw in its settings.
- Health information. Physical limitations and injuries are health data. They reach Inversion Quest only if you choose to bring over your Handstand Quest history, and we use them only to tailor the coaching you ask for, including in AI requests. The app does not yet ask for a separate consent for them. If you don’t want them used, don’t bring your history over, or delete your Inversion Quest data (section 11).
- Legal obligations: answering privacy requests and keeping the records the law requires.
Your targets and AI suggestions are produced automatically, but they have no legal or similarly significant effect on you. You don’t have to give us any information; without an account the app works on your phone only, and without a permission the feature that needs it is off.
10. How long we keep data
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Data on your phone | Until you delete it, sign out, delete your data or uninstall. Signing out and deleting your data clear the app’s data on the phone, except cached coach audio and the database’s offline cache, which go when you uninstall. |
| Your account and synced data | Until you delete them. Nothing expires on its own. |
| AI request content | Not stored by our server. OpenAI may keep it for up to 30 days (section 4). |
| AI usage counters | Daily counts start over each day. Each month’s counter file keeps the last day’s counts under the pseudonymous key, with no names, email addresses or request content, and is deleted within 13 months. |
| Crash reports | Up to 90 days. |
| Analytics events | Up to 14 months, the longest Google Analytics keeps event-level data. |
| Server logs (Google Cloud) | 30 days, Google Cloud Logging’s standard retention. |
| Website logs (Vercel) | Up to 30 days. |
| Mailing list | Until you delete your account everywhere (3.15). |
| Emails with us | Up to 2 years after our last exchange. |
Your phone’s own backups (iCloud, or Google’s Android backup) can include the app’s data and your clips. Those backups are controlled by you and by Apple or Google. Deleted data can also remain in our providers’ backup systems for up to 180 days before it is erased.
11. Deleting and exporting your data
- Delete your data or your account in the app under You, Your data, Delete account. Full steps, what is deleted and what may be kept are on our account deletion page.
- Export your data under You, Your data, Export my data: a JSON file of your sessions, practice times, goals, custom exercises, workouts, plans, form reviews and profile, sent wherever you choose through the share menu. Coach chat, clips and settings aren’t included.
- Delete one thing: a session (open it, then Delete session), a practice time, or the coach conversation (Clear this conversation). Some clip files stay on the phone after a single deletion (3.6).
12. Your rights
Wherever you live, you can see and export your data in the app, correct your training profile, delete your data or your account, and withdraw camera, microphone, speech and notification access in your phone’s settings.
In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you also have the right to access, correct, erase, restrict and port your data, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, to withdraw consent at any time, and to complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office).
To make a request, email info@humanquest.net from the email address on your account. We may ask you to confirm the request from that address before we act on it; we will never ask for your password. We answer within one month (EEA and UK) or 45 days (US states), and tell you if we need longer where the law allows.
13. US state privacy notice
This section is for residents of California and other US states with consumer privacy laws. In the last 12 months we have collected these categories of personal information, from you, your phone and, if you sign in with them, Apple or Google:
| Category | Examples | Disclosed to |
|---|---|---|
| Identifiers | Name, email address, user ID, installation IDs, IP address | Google; OpenAI (first name only); Mailchimp (email address only); Vercel |
| Internet or other electronic activity | Crash reports, app diagnostics, website logs | Google; Vercel |
| Audio and visual information | Up to four still images for a form review you request; speech processed by Apple or Google when not on the device | OpenAI; Apple or Google |
| Approximate location | Derived from your IP address by analytics and hosting providers. No precise location. | Google; Vercel |
| Inferences | Your level, targets and records | Google; OpenAI |
| Sensitive personal information | Account login (email and password, handled by Firebase); health information (physical limitations) | Google; OpenAI (limitations) |
We collect and use these for the purposes in sections 3 and 4, disclose them only to the service providers in section 7, and keep them as described in section 10. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we don’t use it for targeted advertising or for profiling that has legal or similarly significant effects. We use sensitive personal information only to provide the service you ask for, so there is nothing to limit.
You have the right to know and access, delete, correct and port your personal information, and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. You can use an authorized agent; we may ask for proof of their authority and confirm the request with you. We honor Global Privacy Control signals, although there is no sale or sharing for them to stop. If we decline a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer; if you are not satisfied, you can contact your state attorney general.
Consumer health data. Physical limitations and similar training details may be consumer health data under laws such as Washington’s My Health My Data Act. We use them only to provide the features you use, we don’t sell them, and we share them only with the providers in section 7. Our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy explains what we collect and how to use your rights.
14. Children
Inversion Quest is not directed to children under 13, or the higher minimum age in their country, and we don’t knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us personal information, email info@humanquest.net and we will delete it. Teenagers should practice inversions only with a parent’s or guardian’s permission and supervision (see our Terms).
15. Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, sign-in through Firebase Authentication, AI requests accepted only from signed-in accounts within daily limits, and AI servers that can reach only what they need. Google encrypts data it stores for us. No system is perfectly secure; if you think someone has accessed your account, email info@humanquest.net.
16. International transfers
Human Quest is based in the United States. Our database is in a United States multi-region, our AI server runs in the central United States, and our providers may process data in other countries. When data moves from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we rely on safeguards such as the standard contractual clauses in our providers’ data processing terms, or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK and Swiss extensions where a provider is certified.
17. Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we will post the new version here with its effective date. If a change is material, we will also tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
